Royal Irish Academy of Music presents RIAM PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE 20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Led by Richard O’Donnell and comprising some of Ireland’s finest young percussionists, the RIAM Percussion Ensemble is one of the leading exponents of music for this exhilarating medium. During MusicTown 2018, this dynamic ensemble celebrates its 20th Anniversary in style with a highly charged programme featuring music never before performed in Ireland. New music from Ireland – the Irish première of a work by Evangelia Rigaki commissioned by the RIAM Percussion Ensemble to mark its landmark anniversary year – will be performed alongside a composition by Harrison Birtwistle, one of the best-known names in British contemporary music and a celebrated composer throughout the world. MusicTown audiences will be afforded the opportunity to experience Rigaki’s thrilling new composition with Scottish poet WN Herbert, While the World Misbehaves (the Baby Will Hide in the Beehive) and the Irish première of Birtwistle’s imaginative tour de force, For O’ for O’ the Hobby-horse is forgot – Ceremony for six percussionists during MusicTown 2018. This truly rousing birthday celebration is presented in collaboration with the Music Department, Trinity College Dublin and School of Creative Arts and ATRL (Arts Technology Research Lab).
