Messiah on the Street
A firm MusicTown favourite returns. On 13 April 1742 the World Premiere of Handel’s Messiah was performed in Mr Neal’s Musick Hall in Fishamble Street. Our Lady’s Choral Society will perform excerpts from Messiah with The Dublin Handelian Orchestra, conducted by the acclaimed Proinnsías Ó Duinn in an outdoor setting live on Fishamble Street to commemorate one of the city’s most historical music events. Our Lady’s Choral Society was founded in Dublin in 1945 and has 120 members. Conductor Proinnsías Ó Duinn has been responsible for the choir’s musical development since 1979 and under his direction, Our Lady’s Choral Society has undertaken many ambitious works, from Charpentier to Stravinsky. It has also premièred works by luminary Irish composers, such as John Kinsella and Seoirse Bodley. OLCS appears regularly at the National Concert Hall, accompanied by the National Sinfonia, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
