Stephen James Smith and Macdara Yeates present BÉAL, AN EVENING OF POETRY & TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC

Saturday April 21st at 20.30 – The Ireland Institute, 42 Pearse Street, Dublin 2

Luke Kelly & Patrick Kavanagh, Seamus Heaney & Liam O’Flynn, Sean Ó Riada and Eoghan Ruadh Ó Súilleabháin – Since the days of the early Gaelic writers, the poets of Ireland have always maintained an inextricable link with traditional Irish musicians and singers, the two fitting together, mirroring one another, as a mainstay of Irish artistic identity for generations to follow. Curated by Stephen James Smith (‘My Ireland’, LINGO Festival) and Macdara Yeates (Skipper’s Alley, The Night Before Larry Got Stretched) and in association with Flying Turtle Productions, Béal is a unique collaboration showcasing some of Dublin’s finest poets and traditional Irish musicians honouring Ireland’s longstanding history and connection between the two artistic worlds.

This cross-community collaboration sees Yeates and Smith bring together a host of Dublin’s most exciting artists in both fields to devise a series of unique collaborative performances exploring the common ground and shared links in their work.

The intimate, unplugged performance takes place at The Ireland Institute, the Victorian house which was once a childhood home to poet, school teacher, and revolutionary Patrick Pearse.
